    Bryson Mercedes had 13 points along with the game-winning three as time expired while Mathaios Stamm led the scoring with 20 as Newton North topped St. John’s Prep, 55-54, in a nonleague boys basketball thriller.

    Boys hockey

    In the Middlesex League, Declan McLean scored twice as Melrose defeated Lexington, 5-1. … In a MVC/DCL 2 clash, host Tewksbury received two goals and two assists each from Jake Cunha and Tyler Bourea during an 8-0 victory over Acton-Boxboro.

    Girls hockey

    Avalina Coffey scored twice as Winthrop defeated Newburyport, 5-0, in nonleague play.

    In Bay State Conference action, Emma Fair and Catherine Catching both finished with a pair of points (one goal, one assist) as Natick defeated Newton North, 4-1. … In the Patriot League, Shae Martin had two tallies as Duxbury blanked Plymouth 4-0.

    Girls basketball

    Alaysia Drummonds netted 20 points and Adrianna Porazzo added 16 as Foxboro (3-0) rolled over Wellesley 64-26.

    During a non-league clash in Beverly, Lowell stormed to a 52-29 victory behind a 24-point effort from Deb Kisekka.
