The Massachusetts high school football season has concluded with the MIAA state championships that took place last week at Gillette Stadium.

Tabor Academy retain the No. 1 spot at the top of the rankings as Xaverian Brothers jumped up to No. 2 after beating St. John’s Preparatory School for the Division 1 Super Bowl title. The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

Here is the last Massachusetts high school football Top 25 rankings of 2025, according to Massey as of Dec. 8.

    1. Tabor Academy Seawolves

The Tabor Academy Seawolves (9-0) regain their No. 1 ranking after capping their Massachusetts high school football season with a 42-21 victory over Buckingham Browne & Nichols School a couple weeks ago in the John Papas Bowl.

feature one of the Massachusetts’ most talented rosters bar none. The Seawolves have a bevy of Division I talent, which includes players like junior quarterback Peter Bourque (Michigan commit), Amahn Williams (UCF commit) and a pair of UCLA defensive linemen commitments in Carter Gooden and Marcus Almada, respectively.

Tabor Academy was impressive in their regular season opener, a 37-6 rout of The Williston Northampton School, following it up with a dominating outing over The Governors Academy in a 46-6 rout and then taking care of business against Milton Academy in a 51-26 win and St. Sebastian’s School, 39-21.

    2. Xaverian Brothers Hawks

The Xaverian Brothers Hawks (11-2) move up two spots in this final edition of the Massachusetts high school football rankings as they defeated rival, No. 2 St. John’s Preparatory School in a 41-35 state championship thriller.

Armed with one of the state’s best quarterbacks in junior signal caller Will Wood, the Hawks won a 13th state championship as Wood threw for 346 yards, good for third all-time in MIAA Super Bowl history, and three touchdowns.

    3. Catholic Memorial Knights

Catholic Memorial (9-2) finished up the 2025 season with a 41-14 victory over Bishop Feehan (9-1) for the Division II Super Bowl championship.

Among the myriad of Boston College commits are 2026 three-star linemen Marcelino Antunes, Mac Fitzgerald, 2027 safety Jackson Tucker and 2028 athlete Ramar Thomas.

The Knights continues to always remain in the Massachusetts high school football mix when it comes to MIAA’s Division 2 classification and their most impressive victory of the season was a 56-32 romp over St. Francis (N.Y.) several weeks ago. The Knights dropped their first game of the season a few weeks ago against Xaverian Brothers with New England Patriots’ quarterback Drake Maye in attendance, 25-22.

    4. St. John’s Preparatory School Eagles

The St. John’s Preparatory School Eagles (11-2) dropped down to the No. 4 spot after falling to Xaverian Brothers in the MIAA Division 1 Super Bowl championship, 41-35. For the Eagles, it was the second straight loss to Hawks in the last two weeks.

St. John’s sophomore quarterback Christopher Vargas, who is coming off a solid freshman campaign, returned for the title game after sitting out on Thanksgiving Day and was seen on crutches.

The Eagles a few weeks ago needed a strong offensive performance to overcome a big night by Leominster quarterback Osiris Lopez, who is a Coastal Carolina commit, to pull off a 48-32 win in the second round of the MIAA Division I playoffs.
