Of Friday’s eight semifinals, five were blowouts won by at least 20 points, while three were tight battles, including a wild 17-point comeback for Bishop Feehan, and an overtime win for Shawsheen, which kept its state-best 25-game win streak alive by edging North Reading, 22-14.

    Get Starting Point

A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday.

Also Friday, a couple of schools added to their record-breaking soccer dynasties. Both Division 4 finals were held at Doyle Field in Leominster, with the Bromfield boys winning their record 14th title, and Sutton winning its girls’ record 13th overall crown on Ava Magnuson’s goal with less than a minute remaining in regulation.

    1. The Super Bowl matchups

In additition to the cemented Division 2 and D4 matchups, here’s who is in thus far: No. 1 St. John’s Prep in D1, No. 1 Shawsheen in D5, No. 3 Fairhaven in D6, and No. 3 West Boylston in D8.

SJP will take on either No. 3 Xaverian or No. 2 Springfield Central (noon at Milford), Shawsheen will face No. 2 Foxborough or No. 6 Archbishop Williams (noon at Bridgewater-Raynham), Fairhaven awaits the winner of No. 1 Norwell and No. 4 Hudson (noon at Weston), and West Boylston will take on either No. 1 Nashoba Valley Tech or No. 4 Randolph (noon at Wayland).

Find all the matchups, times, and locations in our playoff tracker.

Jake Banda, Shawsheen — The senior was the Rams’ bellcow, bulldozing his way to 266 rushing yards on 38 carries and scoring three touchdowns, then snagging the clinching interception in overtime to solidify a 22-14 Division 5 semifinal win over North Reading.

Grayson Foley, Scituate — The junior capped a 28-carry, 137-yard, two-touchdown day with the punctuating touchdown in a 34-21 Division 4 semifinal win over Duxbury. He also added a leaping interception.

Jack Lambert, Bridgewater-Raynham — The senior did all he could to keep the Trojans’ season alive, helping them rattle off 20 straight points, but it wasn’t enough in a 31-27 loss to Bishop Feehan. Lambert completed 26 of 41 passes for 253 yards and four touchdowns in his penultimate high school game.

Nick O’Brien, Tri-County — The junior, who already led the state in touchdowns (34), started a 35-25 Vocational Medium School semifinal win over Blackstone Valley with an 80-yard kickoff return, then rumbled for 146 yards on 24 carries, adding three catches for 78 yards and a touchdown.

Jonny Sullivan, Tewksbury — Among his three first-half interceptions was the play of the night, a one-handed snatch as Canton was threatening, helping send the Redmen to a 35-6 Division 4 semifinal win.

    Holy, what an interception.

Jonny Sullivan grabs his second pick of the first half with his top hand at the Redmen 10-yard line as the Bulldogs threatened to score.
