Would you pay a robot for a manicure? This week, a Massachusetts-based 10Beauty began rolling out its new technology, starting with an Ulta Beauty location in its hometown of Burlington. A second test location inside an Ulta Beauty in Everett is expected to launch soon, the company said. 10Beauty compares its technology to a printer or coffee capsule. Within the pod are all the elements the robot requires to remove old polish, prep the nails, file the nails, apply color and add a top coat. The company said its robotic service will cost $30 and touts that there’s no tax or tip. “By automating the most standardized steps of the manicure through AI-guided robotics, computer vision, and precision engineering, 10Beauty delivers salon-quality results that are precise, hygienic, quiet, and consistent across cities and coasts — all on your schedule,” the company’s marketing materials state. According to a spokesperson, 10Beauty has deals to bring its robotic manicure technology to approximately 1,000 locations across hair salons, retail, gyms, hotels and spas, including Nordstrom and Ulta Beauty.”We will roll out slowly as we introduce this new technology to the world,” a spokesperson said.
