CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College women’s basketball earned a convincing 82-53 win over UMass Lowell on Sunday afternoon in Conte Forum.

The Eagles are now 2-1 on the season, while UMass Lowell falls to 1-1.

It was a balanced offensive effort with seven players scoring at least seven points and four in double figures.

Teionni McDaniel led the way with 15 points and grabbed five rebounds. Athena Tomlinson poured in a career-high 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting and dished out seven assists. Jocelyne Grier scored 12 points off the bench (10 in the second half), and Erin Houpt netted a season-high 11 points.

All BC needed was an 11-0 surge in the early goings of the first quarter to take a commanding lead. Trailing 6-5, Tomlinson started and ended the run with a pair of trifectas to give the Eagles a 16-6 advantage. The Eagles went into the second period with a 20-14 cushion.

The Eagles stayed in front in the second quarter, stretching their lead to 14 at the end of the first half. McDaniel found Houpt on a corner 3-pointer before Houpt got fouled for a pair of free throws, scoring five points and giving the hosts a 41-27 lead going into the break.

Boston College cruised the rest of the way in the second half for a sixth win against UMass in the series. BC assisted on 19 of its 30 baskets and hit a season-high 12 3-pointers.

BC took advantage of 18 UML turnovers for 19 points and saw 32 points from the bench.

Rider is up next for BC on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Conte Forum, closing out a four-game homestand.

    Tip-Ins

    • Three players in Tomlinson (+25), Kayla Rolph (+24), and Lily Carmody (+24) were above plus-20 in plus/minus. Carmody finished with eight points, six rebounds and five assists. Rolph chipped in with seven points and six boards.
    • BC is 54-4 under Coach Mac when scoring 80 or more points.
    • The Eagles have made 10 or more 3-pointers in two of three games this season.
