TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Boston College volleyball team (15-9, 4-8 ACC) fell 3-2 (25-18, 20-25, 14-25, 23-15) in a hard-fought battle to Florida State University (12-8, 6-5 ACC) Sunday afternoon at Tully Gymnasium.

Audrey Ross led the Eagles posting 23 kills, matching her career high. The junior also added 17 digs and over 23 points. Sequoia Layne tallied 16 kills, also matching a career high. Lucy Mott guided the offensive effort with 33 assists, Aubrey Moore near with 18.

The Eagles set the tone early, getting the first four points of the match with a kill from Roach followed by three consecutive kills from Ross, forcing a Seminole timeout. Going on a 11-5 run, BC extended their lead to 15-7, forcing another FSU timeout. Seven of the next nine BC points came from kills from Ross (3), Herrington, Layne, Moore and Rach. Two final FSU errors solidified the first set for the Eagles, 25-18.

The Seminoles came out strong, jumping ahead early. The Eagles came within one point in the second, at 11-10, but efficient FSU offense pressured BC to take a timeout, down 19-13. Kills from Herrington, Layne (3) and Ross assisted the Eagles offense, but a 6-7 Seminole run solidified the second set for FSU. The Seminoles took the second set 25-20.

In a tightly contested third set as the Eagles and the Seminoles tied eight times. Tying it up again at 16-16, a huge 9-2 BC run featuring kills from Rach (2), Roach (3) and Layne (2) secured the third set for the Eagles, 25-18. The Eagles posted a .484%, holding the Seminoles to a .183 clip in the third.

The Seminoles flipped the script in the fourth, using an early 16-9 lead to take control. A late BC timeout couldn’t slow the FSU attack, as they took the set 25-14 to even the match.

The Seminoles got out to a 9-2 lead in the fifth, forcing a BC timeout. Kills from Hoppes, Layne (2), Rach and Ross shortened the gap, getting the Eagles within four, trailing 12-8. The Eagles came within one of the Seminoles at 14-13, but one final FSU kill secured the fifth set 15-13, and the match for the Seminoles.
