Red Sox star closer Aroldis Chapman sends strong message about possible return to New York Yankees originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

The Boston Red Sox getting Aroldis Chapman this past offseason was just another instance of the Sox getting a former New York Yankees player to ball out for them. Now, after his resurgence, people were wondering if he would ever return to his old team.

However, Chapman gave an answer, and it’s one Sox fans can be proud of: Absolutely not.

“No way. Not even dead…If I were told that I was being traded to New York, I’d pack my things and go home. I’ll retire right on the spot if that happens…I dealt with a lot of disrespect there,” Chapman stated.

In his seven years with New York, Chapman posted a 2.94 ERA, 453 Ks, a WHIP of 1.148, and 153 saves in 315 games. However, he also dealt with beratement from fans, who blamed losses on him quite a bit.

However, with Boston, he’s had the best year of his career, and that’s pretty ironic. With his former team’s bitter rival, he’s posted a 1.17 ERA, 85 Ks, a WHIP of 0.701, and 32 saves in 67 games. He also earned himself a contract extension of one year, $13 million, with a $13 million vesting option for 2027.

Hopefully, the Sox keep getting an amazing performance from him, so they and Chapman can keep sticking it to the Yankees for the next couple of seasons to come.
