As of Oct. 16, just eight girls’ volleyball players in state history had recorded 2,000 career assists.

Amazingly, two have reached the mark in the past week.

After Canton senior Erin Bigham got to 2,000 last Friday, it was Burlington senior Ula Rinkeviciute‘s turn Thursday, as she became the 10th player in state history to cross the all-time threshold, doing so in a 3-0 sweep of Wilmington.

The full list: Rinkeviciute, Bigham, Barnstable’s Kayla Crook, Notre Dame Academy’s Corrine Cox, Frontier’s Emily Woodward, Dartmouth’s Cierra Yim, Greater New Bedford’s Elle McCormack, Old Rochester’s Aubrey Letourneau, Weston’s Riley Huml, and Dennis-Yarmouth’s Vivian Castano, who graduated in the spring as the state’s all-time leader with 2,589.

    ▪ Hopkinton junior middle hitter Evie Woodbury notched her 500th career kill during a 3-2 loss to Bishop Feehan.

    ▪ Salem junior Yanalis Ventura broke two school records in a 3-0 sweep of Beverly, becoming the Witches’ single-season (270) and career (518) digs leader. The records she broke stood for 12 and 13 years, respectively.

    🚨NEW PROGRAM RECORD ALERT🚨

Yanalis Ventura set TWO program records for Single-Season & All-Time Career Digs! The previous records stood for 13 and 12 years respectively.

    ▪ Scoring twice in a 6-0 soccer win over Plymouth South, North Quincy senior Jacqueline Manning reached 50 career goals.

    ▪ Abington football rolled over Rockland, 32-7, with five players scoring, capped by Nick Vachon’s 26-yard game-sealing TD run. With the win, the Green Wave (6-1) captured at least a share of the South Shore Sullivan crown.

    ▪ With a 5-0 win over Everett, the Medford girls’ soccer team (13-3-1) won the Greater Boston League with a 13-0-1 conference record.

    ▪ The Tewksbury boys’ soccer team got goals from Arbel Levenson, Gustavo Oliveira, Owen Sovie, Ronny Pereria, and Jonathan Kusmaul to defeat Gloucester, 5-1, and win the Merrimack Valley Conference Division 2 championship.

    ▪ Bishop Feehan stood tall at the Catholic Central cross-country championship at Franklin Park, winning the boys’ and girls’ titles.

The girls won with 32 points, easily outpacing second-place Bishop Fenwick (51) and third-place St. Mary’s (86). Kelsey Kwiatek of St. Mary’s won the 5K girls race in 18 minutes, 33 seconds, while Feehan was led by Sophie Shaw, who was second in 18:55.

The Shamrocks’ boys scored 41 points, led by Andrew Carchedi (17:27) in third place and Michael Bernier (17:51) in fourth. Archbishop Williams (48) finished second and St. Mary’s (117) was a distant third. The Bishops’ Nick Antonellis won the race in 17:14, followed by teammate Joe Mento (17:19).

    ▪ The East Bridgewater boys and Norwell girls both captured South Shore League cross-country crowns.

Five of the first six finishers in the girls’ race represented Norwell, including individual champion Katherine Murray (18:06.7), a sophomore, and junior teammate Audrey Birtwell, who placed second in 18:31. Abington (63) and Middleborough (79), were second and third, respectively.

The Vikings placed four runners in the top seven, led by junior Benjamin Levesque in third place in 16:30 and sophomore Tommy Rhuda in fourth in 16:37.6 on the 5K course. Middleborough senior Atley Phinney won the boys’ race in 15:49.8.

Mairin Goff affirmed her standing as the fastest middle school girls’ runner in the city of Boston.

Goff led her Eliot K-8 Innovation School to a team win in the B.A.A. Boston Middle School Cross-Country Championship at Playstead Field at Franklin Park with a 5-minute, 54.4-second time on the 0.95-mile course.

“This is my third time running this event and second time winning it,” said Goff. “It feels really good.”

Eliot posted the top six finishers: Caleigh Moore (second, 6:11.2), Callie McHugh (third, 6:16.1), Morgan Childs (fourth, 6:22.6), Alexis Uber (fifth, 6:28.9), and Madison Bonosoro (sixth, 6:30.8).

The boys’ race came down to a three-way sprint, with O’Bryant’s Matias Builes Chavarriaga (5:26.8) outlasting Eliot’s Patrick Goff (5:26) and Warren Prescott’s Jack Heaton (5:26.8) down the stretch.

“I was fifth last year so to win it this year feels amazing,” said Builes Chavarriaga. “It feels really amazing. I feel so good about myself.”

Eliot scored a 2-point win over O’Bryant in the team competition, 35-37, with George Richey, Theo Brown, Tyler Kaschel, and Rorey Herrick also scoring.

The meet, which serves as a qualifier for April’s B.A.A. Middle School 1K, featured nearly 300 runners from 10 Boston schools. Warren Prescott won the co-ed relay in 43.2 seconds.

    ▪ University of New Hampshire junior Grace Blume, a Dedham graduate, was named America East Diver of the Week after dominating the boards in a season-opening victory at Vermont. Blume, the 2025 America East Championship Diver of the Meet, won the 1-meter dive with a score of 254.33 and the 3-meter dive in 264.53 to secure a 167-133 win over the Catamounts.

    ▪ Brandeis graduate student Shae Regan, a Littleton graduate who started her collegiate cross-country career at Northeastern, was named the Judges’ Athlete of the Week. Regan finished 44th at the Connecticut College Invitational, lowering her personal best to 21 minutes, 53.1 seconds on the 6K course, helping Brandeis move into the USTFCCCA rankings at No. 26.

The various Hoophall tournaments are approaching in January.

The main event, the Hoophall Classic Jan. 15-19, will feature eight of the top 10 boys in the ESPN Class of 2026 rankings, and six of the top 19 girls.

Competing from Massachusetts: Central Catholic boys, Chicopee Comp boys, South Hadley boys, Putnam Vocational boys, Pope Francis boys, and Springfield Central boys and girls.

The Panini Hoophall Invitational will be held Jan. 17-18 at Western New England and six Springfield area high schools. It will feature 56 boys teams and 20 girls from eight states.
