Louisville’s Jeff Brohm talks win over Miami, previews Boston College

Louisville head football coach Jeff Brohm talks about the win over Miami and what his team needs to do to gain a victory over Boston College.

The night before Louisville football’s ACC game against then-No. 2 Miami, the Cardinals watched clips of Muhammad Ali’s Thrilla in Manila fight. It was a foreshadowing for the kind of fight the team would display against the Hurricanes.

Louisville weathered the storm of UM’s comeback attempt and left South Florida with its second win over Miami in three years. The No. 22 Cardinals’ next fight will come against an underrated opponent in Boston College. The Eagles have lost six straight games this season and back-to-back meetings with the Cardinals. Boston College‘s last win in Louisville was in 2017, 45-42.

But with U of L having its best defense under Jeff Brohm and an improving offense, the Cardinals are determined to prevent the potential upset with the ACC championship game and the College Football Playoff still within their sights.

Brohm hasn’t forgotten about last year’s game at Boston College. The Cardinals overcame a 20-point deficit and outscored the Eagles, 24-7, in the second half to earn a 31-27 victory. This year, Louisville is hoping to use its growing confidence to build an early lead en route to a home victory. The Cardinals have all of the pieces to do so, including a healthier run game, as they look to gain bowl eligibility with a win over BC.

Why Louisville has an advantage: Louisville is the more talented team in the matchup and riding high after taking down previously undefeated Miami. Isaac Brown looks as healthy as he’s been in more than a month, which was key in helping the offense against the Hurricanes. Meanwhile, Louisville’s defense is holding its opponents well under season averages, allowing 21 points and 274 yards of total offense per game.

Why Boston College has an advantage: For the past two years, Louisville has faltered in games after a signature win. Two years ago, the Cards lost to Pitt after beating Notre Dame at home. Last year, U of L lost to Stanford after defeating Clemson on the road. Boston College can benefit from a potential misstep.

    Louisville 42, Boston College 10.
