Neymar’s latest injury blow sparks 2026 World Cup concern originally appeared on The Sporting News

Brazilian star Neymar is once again fighting the clock.

The Santos forward has suffered another setback in his recovery, and fears are growing over his chances of leading Brazil at the 2026 World Cup.

At 33, every week on the sidelines feels heavier than a defender’s tackle.

Santos president Marcelo Teixeira confirmed the news that Neymar will not return to action before November. The veteran is recovering from a right thigh injury and will reportedly need at least six more weeks of treatment.

That means Santos must face a crucial stretch of league matches without their biggest name as they battle to stay clear of relegation.

Despite flashes of his old magic, Neymar’s season has been stop-start. He has played only 21 matches and scored six goals since rejoining the club.

His absences have frustrated both fans and coaches, while Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti watches closely.

Neymar has a history of untimely injuries. From a broken back in 2014 to a torn ACL in 2023, his career highlight reel comes with a medical chart.

Ancelotti recently said, “I want him to be really well to be able to play. He can participate in the World Cup if he is physically well. From a technical point of view, there is no discussion. His objective must be to be ready in June. It does not matter whether he is in the list in October, November or March.”

That reassurance sounds nice, but the clock keeps ticking. Brazil begin their road to the 2026 World Cup without their record scorer, and every injury update feels like added stoppage time.

Santos fans hope he can at least return for the final rounds of the league, where his goals could be as valuable as a last-minute winner.

For now, the ball is in Neymar’s court — or rather, in the treatment room. Another comeback is possible, but whether it leads to a World Cup run remains the biggest question.
