    Eagles Fall to Notre Dame

    SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Boston College Eagles (11-3, 0-2 ACC) fell 3-0 (9-25, 21-25, 21-25) to Notre Dame (4-6, 1-1 ACC) Sunday afternoon to close the first weekend of conference play.
     
    Junior Audrey Ross led the Eagles offensive charge recording 11 kills, one block and contributing over 11 points. Freshman Sofija Marjanovic added four kills, posting a .571 hitting percentage. Sam Hoppes recorded a .750% tallying three kills, and one block. Sophomore Lucy Mott posted 15 assists. Junior Brooklyn Yelland posted eight digs. Freshman Bella Ehrlich added three blocks to the mix. Sequoia Layne and Anna Herrington both added three kills each.
     
    The Eagles got on the board first as Ehrlich posted a big block to open the scoring. Trailing 9-4 at the first media timeout, the Fighting Irish continued to lengthen the gap. With a 6-0 run, Notre Dame was up 21-8. The Fighting Irish took the first set 25-9.
     
    Turning up the heat offensively, the Eagles opened the second set with a kill from Rach followed by a 5-0 Eagles run, taking their first lead of the match. Kills from Ehrlich, Herrington (2), an ace from Yelland and blocks from Ross and Roach propelled the Eagles to an early 6-2 lead. The Fighting Irish didn’t back down, pushing back to tie it up at 9-9. The Eagles trailed 15-11 at the media timeout. The Eagles kept fighting back but Notre Dame didn’t let up, lengthening the gap to 22-17, forcing a BC timeout. The Fighting Irish took the second set 25-21.
     
    Despite being tied eight times, Notre Dame held a 15-14 lead at the first media timeout. Kills from Hoppes, Marjanovic and Ross assisted the Eagles effort bringing them within two, trailing 22-20, but the Fighting Irish turned up the heat. Notre Dame took the third set 25-21.

    UP NEXT
    The Eagles remain on the road as they head to Virginia to compete against Virginia, Oct. 3 to continue conference play.
