What are the World Para Championships?

Para athletics is the biggest sport within the Paralympic Movement, in terms of the number of participating athletes and countries. It was one of eight sports included in the first Paralympic Games in Rome, Italy in 1960.

It includes running events, discus, shot put, javelin and club throw, high jump and long jump.

Athletes compete according to their sport-specific classification in each event. Some compete in wheelchairs and some with prostheses, while vision impaired athletes are supported by a sighted guide.

When are the World Para Athletics Championships?

Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium will host over 1,000 athletes for the event that will take place from Sept. 27-Oct. 5, 2025. It will be the 12th edition of the World Para Athletics Championships and the largest Para sport event ever held in India.

The games will feature 186 medal events (101 men’s, 84 women’s and one mixed), 15 more than at the last edition of the championships in Kobe, Japan.

She’ll then wait until Friday, Oct. 3, for the 200 qualifier for T47s at around 9:30 a.m. EST. Semifinals (10:45 a.m.) and finals (6:07) will be on Sunday, Oct. 5.

    How did Violet Hall qualify?

Hall was one of 20 men and 20 women’s chosen to represent the USA in the games. The senior is just one of two high schoolers to make the team.

She earned the spot with her performances in the Para Nationals at Eugene, Oregon, in the first weekend of August. The 17 year old won three of her five races and placed second and third in the others. She hit the A Standard in the 200 in 25.47 seconds, just a hair off her career best.
