Freshman Rena Pistilli (Lambaré, Paraguay) logged her first career goals, but the UMass Lowell field hockey team dropped a 3-2 overtime heartbreaker at Yale in New Haven, Conn., on Sunday.

“This was a tough battle against a seasoned and fast Yale team,” said UML head coach Shannon LeBlanc. “It was a good bounce back performance after Friday, but still not good enough for a win.”

Pistilli tallied both goals for UMass Lowell (1-3), while sophomore Karlijn Kerkhof (Rotterdam, Netherlands) and senior Madison Leeper (East Amherst, N.Y.) logged two assists apiece. Freshman goalkeeper Veerle Mous (Breda, Netherlands) finished with six saves.

The Bulldogs pressured in the opening minutes, registering the first three shots of the day, including two that were kicked away by Mous. Both teams played at a fast pace throughout the opening quarter, as the home side added one more shot in the final seconds on a corner attempt, but the River Hawk defense thwarted the opportunity to keep the game scoreless.

Sophomore Henry Wohlt (Milwaukee, Wis.) scored the first goal of his career, as UMass Lowell took down the Holy Cross Crusaders, 2-1, to finish undefeated during a three-game road trip.

“That was a great win on the road,” said UML head coach Kyle Zenoni of his 3-1-1 team. “At the end of the day a win is a win and it’s hard to win in college soccer. ”

Wohlt, whose goal proved to be the difference in the match, found the back of the net with just over 10 minutes to play. Joining him with a goal on the night was senior Iñaki Esnaola (Junin, Argentina), who scored his first of the season. Redshirt sophomore Justin Pham (Liverpool, N.Y.) and sophomore Cristiano Da Silva (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) each added an assist. In net, freshman Alvaro Medrano (Guatemala City, Guatemala) made seven saves.
