I love a good police chase. Not because they’re effective—they’re not—but because they inevitably revolve around some insane thing that sparks your imagination of “What the hell was this person thinking?” I mean, the O.J. of it all still beggars belief, you know?

And there are thousands to choose from each and every year, most notably out of Los Angeles. I still can’t figure out why or how that occurs having spent nearly a decade weaving my way through its notorious traffic, but it’s the police chase capital of the world. That said, this police chase I’m about to tell you about has to give LA a run for its money for the wildest yet.

Why? Because it involves a pickup truck, a trailered PWC, and the whole thing ending up exactly how you’d expect. With both being set on fire. Yet, it was just outside of Boston, Massachusetts, not Los Angeles or even Florida.

    Who would’ve guessed?

According to NBC 10 Boston, “A police chase spanned nearly 50 miles across Massachusetts as officers pursued a stolen pickup truck and jet ski that eventually crashed, igniting a small fire and leading to the arrest of a Rhode Island man.”

The chase began when a woman called the police to report that a group of people were in her backyard attempting to steal her PWC and trailer. That initial theft was caught on the woman’s home Ring cameras, and a total of three perpetrators were caught on video. As was the pickup truck that the thieves were using to, hopefully, get away with the PWC. That, too, was later found to be stolen. Police officers immediately responded to the call and located the stolen vehicles.

And here’s where it went off the rails.

“When officers attempted to stop the suspect, a pursuit ensued,” states the outlet, as “Troopers used ‘stop sticks’ to deflate the suspect vehicle’s tires, but it continued traveling on rims, in excess of 90 mph, sending debris flying that smashed a Kington police cruiser’s windshield, spraying the officer with shattered glass. Despite this, the officer continued his pursuit, police said, and the stolen jet ski and trailer fell off the truck in Bourne.”

The chase, however, continued for another 47 miles. It only ended when the truck crashed and ignited a small fire. Only one of the three suspects, however, was apprehended as police believe that the two others bailed on their partner closer to the city, while the latter kept running in the stolen truck. That said, the cops believe they have enough evidence to track the latter two perps down in short order.

As for what happened to the PWC, that’s unclear. Hopefully, that lady gets it back and it’s not too damaged, but a high-speed pursuit, and its subsequent tossing off the trailer is probably not great for the hull…
