In the Div. 3 quarterfinals, Matt Toland tallied his seventh win on mound and had two RBIs as No. 11 Arlington Catholic upset No. 3 Foxboro 5-3.
CLASS NOTES
Boston Herald All-Scholastic pitcher Alyx Rossi of Bedford was named the Gatorade Softball Player of the Year for Massachusetts. The Boston College-bound ace has led the Buccaneers to the Division 2 state semifinals.
A member of both the Spanish National Honor Society and Bedford’s Academic Hall of Fame, Rossi has volunteered locally with her town’s club of social concern. She has also served as a member of her school’s Model UN team and with the UNITAS Leadership Academy, a student-leadership organization.
Bob Slater stepped down as head boys basketball coach at Somerset Berkley. The head coach since 2009, Slater guided the Raiders to the Division 2 state title this past season, the first championship of any kind at the school since the 1954 team defeated Weston 56-52 to claim the Class C crown.
