Worcester Red Sox 9, Rochester Red Wings 1 (BOX)

The Rochester Red Wings (WAS) are having a tough season at 22-35 and it didn’t get any better in the first inning on Wednesday, as the Woo Sox put up a 7-spot. Nate Eaton got the action going with an RBI single and a stolen base, part of a two-hit day, before Blaze Jordan doubled in a run. Nathan Hickey capped off the inning with a three-run homer (9). Jordan, in just his second game in Worcester, followed that up in the third with his first home run at the level as the rout was on. Jordan’s parents were being interviewed at the time by the NESN crew:

Nick Sogard and Vaughn Grissom also contributed two-hit efforts, with Grissom stealing his sixth base on the year, and then hitting his fourth home run in the fifth inning. On the mound, Brian Van Belle was outstanding, allowing one run on five hits and striking out five over seven innings. He is now 5-1 with a 2.29 ERA on the season.

Roman Anthony was 0-for-4 with three K’s. Demote him to Portland.

Isaac Coffey makes his season debut for Worcester on Thursday at 6:05.

Hartford Yard Goats 4, Portland Sea Dogs 2 (BOX)

I can’t think of a sports team that can be said with a Boston accent better than the Hartford Yard Goats (COL). The HYG’s started Austin Gomber on Wednesday, who threw four strong innings and left with a 2-1 lead. Portland got a run on an RBI double from catcher Mark Kolozsvary, who had the lone multi-hit effort for the Sea Dogs on the day. David Sandlin threw a quality start, allowing three runs over six innings and striking out six but was saddled with the loss.

The Sea Dogs throw Connelly Early (4-0, 2.14) on Thursday, which ironically starts early since it is already underway in Portland.

Rome Emperors 4, Greenville Drive 1 (BOX)

The Drive had a lot of traffic against Rome (ATL) on Wednesday but couldn’t get the runners in. Antonio Anderson, Justin Reimer, and Hudson White each tallied two hits, while it was Franklin Arias who drove in the lone run on a double in the fifth. On the hill, Payton Tolle kept the insane strikeout rate on the season rolling, albeit while allowing four runs, with eight K’s in six innings. Tolle has a 10:62 BB:K ratio over just 38 2/3 innings this season.

Max Carlson (2-1, 4.39) will get the ball for Greenville at 6:45 Thursday.

Lynchburg Hillcats 2, Salem Red Sox 1 (BOX)

Salem lost a nailbiter to the Hillcats (CLE) on Wednesday, 2-1. Shortstop Starlin Nunez was the sole highlight at the plate, knocking in a run on a 2-for-3 day with a walk. Justin Gonzales had a hit and his fifth steal. Steven Brooks pitched very well for Salem, allowing two runs on two hits over 5 1/3 innings for a tough loss.

Luis Cohen (1-1, 3.44) will take the bump on Thursday at 6:35 for Salem.
