Major League Baseball is investigating Sean Hjelle after his wife, Caroline, alleged that the San Francisco Giants reliever abused her and recently abandoned her and their two sons.
Hours before the Red Sox and Giants opened up a three-game series in San Francisco on Friday, Caroline Hjelle posted a video on TikTok with “When my MLB husband abandons us on Mothers Day a week after this once I finally found about his affairs and stopped putting up with his abuse, so I’ve been raising two boys alone” superimposed over footage of her and her sons.
She also captioned the video, “Yeah I’ve had to be silent for too long about this” and added several hashtags, including ‘divorce,’ ‘cheating,’ ‘singlemom,’ and ‘mlb.’

The Giants issued the following statement on Saturday:
“We are aware of these serious allegations. We have been in contact with MLB. These type of allegations fall under their jurisdiction and we won’t be commenting further.”
Giants manager Bob Melvin confirmed Hjelle was still available to pitch in Saturday’s game.
“Obviously we’re aware of it,” Melvin told reporters. “He told me about it last night. We talked to MLB. At this point, it’s in their jurisdiction right now so I really can’t comment on it further.”
Hjelle was the Giants’ second-round pick in 2018 and debuted with the club in May ’22. He took the loss in Friday night’s series opener.
