Alex Bregman isn’t far from returning to the Boston Red Sox.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora issued injury updates on a number of players prior to Friday’s series-opening victory over the Washington Nationals, and signs are pointing in a positive direction. Cora was asked whether Bregman would return during the week-long homestand preceding the 2025 All-Star Game, and fans will like his answer.

“I hope so,” Cora said, as transcribed by MassLive’s Chris Cotillo. “Alex is back in Boston. He’s doing his rehab. I talked to him yesterday. A lot better, so we’re getting close.”

Can the return come as soon as Monday?

    “Happy Fourth,” Cora said, smiling.

Bregman, who has been out since May 23, is nearly at full strength after dealing with a right quad strain over the last six weeks. The Red Sox seem to believe he can return without a rehab assignment, which the 31-year-old has been pushing for over the last couple of weeks.

Tanner Houck, Hunter Dobbins and Masataka Yoshida will all be joining Double-A Portland for rehab games this week, Cora announced.

Boston likely will be more selective when it comes to bringing that trio back into the fold.
