EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — Facing stiff resistance around the NFL, the tush push managed to move the chains and gain a fresh set of downs.League owners narrowly failed to pass a proposal to prohibit the polarizing short-yardage strategy at their spring meetings in Minnesota on Wednesday, keeping the rulebook as is — and pleasing the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. The ban on offensive players from pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping or encircling a runner was supported by a 22-10 vote, according to a person with knowledge of the proceedings, speaking on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press because the details weren’t made…
Alex Bregman took a calculated chance this offseason to sign with the Boston Red Sox. It ended up working out quite well for the veteran third baseman so far. Bregman is off to the best start of his MLB career as he entered Wednesday’s matchup with the New York Mets batting a robust .304 with 11 home runs — both of which lead the Red Sox — and 35 RBIs. Bregman, who signed a three-year, $120 million deal with Boston which includes opt-outs after each of the first two seasons, had options in free agency but ultimately had his reasons…
PHOTO: ClutchPoints/Facebook Now that the news has come out that Jayson Tatum has ruptured his Achilles tendon and had surgery to fix the issue today, the question turns to what the Celtics will do now.The Knicks have a 3-1 series lead over the defending world champions, and with Game 5 happening tomorrow at TD Garden, and without their best player, how the Celtics respond is the big question.I look for them to come out with a fire lit underneath them and a desire to prove the doubters wrong, as they are now the hunter instead of the hunted due to…
The numbers speak for themselves. St. John’s Prep continues to speak for itself. In a clash between what many would consider to be the state’s top two boys lacrosse programs, the Eagles were able to knock off yet another rival Wednesday, cruising past Catholic Conference cohort BC High, 8-4. “They’re the number one team in the state,” said St. John’s Prep coach John Pynchon. “They’ve been having a great season. They always do. So we knew it was going to be a great battle.” The Eagles (16-1) were propelled offensively by junior Josh Barton, and by rising underclassmen Ryan McCarthy…
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Natalie Grant, a nine-time Grammy nominee and five-time GMA Dove Awards Female Vocalist of the Year, will perform the national anthem Sunday before the Indianapolis 500. “Natalie’s emotional and stirring rendition of the national anthem in front of the grandstand sellout crowd will be an unforgettable moment during pre-race ceremonies for the Indy 500,” IndyCar and Indianapolis Motor Speedway president Doug Boles said Wednesday. “The national anthem pays honor to the country we love and gets us one step closer to the final, dramatic and electric moments leading up to the start of the Indianapolis 500.” Grant’s…

After three straight games in which the starting pitcher failed to finish five innings, the Red Sox bullpen is running on fumes. Fortunately, the club has its ace on the mound tonight. Garrett Crochet (4-3, 2.00) will take the mound for Wednesday’s series finale against the New York Mets. The left-hander will face off against Mets right-hander Tylor Megill (3-4, 3.74) and presumably have a long leash with few fresh arms available to support him in the bullpen. The Red Sox lineup will feature most of the usual suspects, with Kristian Campbell back again at second base and Nick Sogard…
The Celtics are speculated to trade multiple key assets this offseason, but it might come at a greater cost. Boston went above the second apron, which comes with basketball penalties. It wouldn’t be smart to go above the second apron again. So, along with Jayson Tatum’s Achilles injury, veterans like Jrue Holiday are expected to be moved. However, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer, “some form of incentive (such as draft compensation) might have to be attached to Holiday’s contract by the Celtics to convince someone to absorb the $104 million remaining on the 34-year-old’s deal over the next three…
Florida Panthers forward Brad Marchand did not get to finish Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final on Tuesday night after an incident with Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere. It happened in the third period of the Panthers’ 5-2 win at the Lenovo Center. Marchand tried to hit Gostisbehere along the boards but mostly missed. Gostisbehere didn’t like it, and a few seconds later, he appeared to shoot the puck directly at Marchand. Marchand, unsurprisingly, was quite upset, and a fight between the two of them ensued. Marchand was given a 4-minute double minor for roughing and a 10-minute misconduct.…
