All eyes were on Garrett Crochet in this outing after a lot of talk of fatigue in recent days for the pitcher who now leads all of baseball in innings pitched with 185 1/3. Crochet responded by dominating with all four of his pitches (Four Seam, Cutter, Sinker, Sweeper) and even a few changeups, allowing three hits, walking none, and striking out ten batters over seven innings, for his 15th victory of the season. After limited whiffs on the four-seam in the previous outing, Crochet got 42% Whiffs on that pitch tonight.StatcastThe broadcast referenced Crochet’s dominance on 5+ days rest,…

American alpine ski racer Lindsey Vonn recently shared glimpses with Carlos Alcaraz after the Spaniard clinched his second US Open title on Sunday, September 7. Vonn was one of the many stars who attended the finals between Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner at the Arthur Ashe, which the Spaniard won in four sets. Alcaraz was dominant from the word go in the finals and impressively took the first set 6-2. Even though Sinner took the second set from Alcaraz 6-3, it remained the only set that the Italian won in the match, and the latter dropped in the entire tournament. The…

Men’s tennis is just Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz hurtling toward one another, with loud and incandescent results. Since Sinner returned to the tour in May after a three-month suspension, the rivals have entered the same tournament five times. In all five instances, they have met in the final. They appear to be on such level terms now, across all surfaces and court speeds, that each match comes down to the idiosyncrasies of fatigue, form, and focus. The old, easy shorthands now feel obsolete. Every match is a new fight, and this latest bout went Alcaraz’s way.Sinner and Alcaraz met…

FOXBORO — All signs pointed toward the Patriots going run-heavy in their season opener against the Raiders, so it was surprising to see Josh McDaniels’ offense run the ball just 18 times in the 20-13 loss. Even more shocking, the Patriots ran the ball just three times in the second half, and neither Rhamondre Stevenson nor TreVeyon Henderson received a single carry after the second quarter. Head coach Mike Vrabel said the Patriots got away from the run because it was inefficient in the first half. “Yeah, it just wasn’t one of our better plays,” Vrabel said. “Again, we just…

Future Mike note: Do you how awkward it is to write an entire post and not be able to refer to the team by their location? Well now I do!That construction equipment in the main picture for the A’s “groundbreaking” in Las Vegas? It was rented for the photo op. Not for, say, breaking ground. The Arizona Diamondbacks were kind enough to send not one but two starting pitchers against the Red Sox over the weekend who had ERAs greater than five. The Athletics have chosen to be less kind, especially starting out. However since that didn’t help the run scoring…

A Buffalo Bills fan learned the hard way that Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson doesn’t take kindly to being touched by opposing fans. After Ravens wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins made a spectacular one-handed touchdown catch near the end of the third quarter, he and Jackson decided to celebrate by sprinting along the sidelines right in front of the Bills crowd. As he did, one Bills fan appeared to reach over and hit both Hopkins and Jackson on the helmet with his hand. While Hopkins appeared not to notice, Jackson took exception and shoved the Bills fan back into his seat.…

The 2025 Formula 1 season opened with a sense of optimism that we would see a close, exciting championship battle. Well, the championship battle is certainly close. It is also mind-numbingly boring. There is tension, I suppose, in the sense that the two numbers next to each driver’s name in the standings are quite close to each other, and if you can do rudimentary math, you can calculate the difference between those two numbers as it expands or contracts. But with the exception of one or, generously, two races, recaps about the championship fight can ignore the action on track entirely…

After waiting seven months for the NFL to return to the field, and being rewarded with an absolutely sensational AFC showdown between Buffalo and Baltimore to cap the first Sunday of the season, it’s hard not to flip ahead a few months on the calendar and pencil in another bout between the Bills and Ravens.  Because Sunday night’s matchup — a rematch of last January’s Divisional Round battle between two of the greatest quarterbacks of this generation, both surrounded by supporting casts worthy of Super Bowl rings — had all the makings of a post-season preview.  Of course, nobody really wants to…
