At this point, even the Red Sox know it’s getting harder and harder to justify keeping Roman Anthony at Triple-A.

Anthony, the No. 1 prospect in baseball, is running out of things to prove at Worcester, where he continues to produce and hit the ball hard seemingly every time he makes contact. Pair that with Boston’s struggles — the Sox have lost five straight — and the calls for him to get the call are getting louder and louder.

Chief baseball officer Craig Breslow has had no choice but to acknowledge them at this point, and manager Alex Cora is also starting to field questions about just when the slugging outfielder will make his way to Boston.

“We’ve been having conversations,” Cora said Thursday in his weekly appearance on the WEEI afternoon show. “We knew, at one point, (Kristian) Campbell was going to be part of (the big league team), it just happened on Opening Day. We knew Marcelo was going to contribute at one point, and he’s here already because of injuries. I know at some point Roman is going to be here.

“The timing is something, as an organization, we’re going to decide when. Obviously, he’s doing an outstanding job. He’s getting better. He’s not knocking at the door, he’s knocking it down, let’s be honest.”

Anthony had a strong spring training with the big club but ultimately couldn’t crack the major league roster. In 49 games at Triple-A to start the season, he has done all that’s been asked of him. Anthony is hitting .318 with eight home runs and 23 RBIs for the WooSox so far with a .979 OPS, the best mark he’s posted at any point in his minor league career outside of 10 games with Double-A Portland in 2023.
