    Westford volleyball teams rolls past Billerica

    The Westford Academy girls volleyball team had no problem taking care of business against Billerica, earning a three-set sweep on Monday.

    The Grey Ghosts won by scores of 25-18, 25-18 and 25-20 in a non-league match.

    Leading the way for Westford were senior setter Lia Clancy with 20 assists, senior outside hitter Norah Schweitzer with 11 kills, five blocks, one ace, Kaitlyn Pepin with seven kills and two blocks, and Aanya Surampudi with seven digs.

    For Billerica, Kendra Marino (six kills), Emma Johnson (eight assists), Meghan Downs (six assists) and Avery Townsend (six service points) all played well in defeat.

    Central Catholic 3, Dracut 0: Madison Blanchet had a big performance to lead the Raiders (3-0) to a three-set sweep (25-14, 27-25 and 25-9) over the Middies. Blanchet finished with 30 assists from the setter spot, and was a force serving with 16 points, including four aces.

    Julie Hall finished with 13 kills, Sydney Faria added nine to go with her 11 digs and Alexia Faria had 11 digs as well.

    For the Middies, Leila Amiepouopouo finished with seven kills, six digs and four aces, while Alexis Hudon chipped in with 13 digs and Kelsey Hudon registered 19 assists and added a pair of blocks.

    Chelmsford 3, Lawrence 0: Kyra Ward collected 13 kills to power the Lions to the MVC victory on Tony Hajjar Night.

    Scores were 25-11, 25-16, 25-6. Tonight’s game honored legendary coach Tony Hajjar, who coached Lawrence coach Hector Sanchez and Chelmsford coach Edgar Valdez. Alicia Marcal claimed four aces and three kills.

    Also starring for the Lions were Emily Dibble (7 kills), Bonnie Politzer (6 kills, 4 aces), Bri Cairns (10 digs, 4 aces) and Ellen Griswold (28 assists, 4 aces).

    Lowell 3, Haverhill 2: The Red Raiders pulled out a thrilling MVC victory. Scores were 25-10, 26-24, 24-26, 26-28, 16-14.

    Methuen 3, Tewksbury 0: The Redmen struggled in service receive, which prevented them from running their offense during the MVC clash.

    Scores were 25-17, 25-14, 26-24. Bella Cueva led the attack with eight assists, while Julianna Cappiello and Kayleigh Martin had four kills each. Angelina Silva provided nine digs.

    Field hockey

    Lowell 7, Gr. Lowell Tech 0: Junior Anthony Ford led the offense with two goals, while junior Avery Fells and sophomore Carly Galvin had a goal and an assist each. Riley Pierce also had multiple points, dishing out two assists.  Evelyn Montgomery, Keelyn Grady and Delilah Mejias scored one goal each.

    Junior goalkeeper Kayla Moriarty recorded her second shutout to push the Red Raiders to 2-0.

    Tyngsboro 5, Shepherd Hill 2: The Tigers took a quick 3-0 lead in the first quarter with two of those goals unassisted by Macy Serrano. Additional goals came from Lily Wheeler (two goals) both assisted by Grace Mauti, and one from Camryn Times assisted by Devyn Amico.

    Sophomore Emma LaCrosse played well, and freshman goalie Caliegh Flynn stopped her first two varsity shots.

    Central Catholic 2, North Andover 1: The Raiders picked up their first win of the season, edging out the Scarlet Knights. Julia Smida led the offense with a goal and an assist, and Anna Siggens scored the other goal on an assist from Celinna Perham. Goalie Gianna Bonanno made five saves.

    Chelmsford 3, Westford Academy 1: Senior captain Amelia Stroud scored twice, while Carly Hartman had the other to lead the Lions to the non-league win. Cat Craig and Delaney Graham dished out one assist each, and goalie Brooke Cannata turned away six shots.

    Bay Path 4, Greater Lowell 0: Goalie Ava Gauthier made 15 saves in the defeat. Playing well in front of her were Daisy Iem and Cindy Ribeiro.

    Girls soccer

    Central Catholic 8, Lawrence 0: Sarah Tressler, Victoria Syrniotis, Megan Maresca, Heidi Salmoran, Abby Bilodeau, Lucy Irwin, Ciara Sammon and Heidi Salmoran each had a goal, while Syrniotis picked up two assists, and Maresca, Sammon, Chloe Fourtzialas and Olivia Swett had one each. Goalie Gianna DeMedeiros made two saves for the shutout victory.

    LC 6, Collegiate Charter 0: Lowell Catholic received two goals each from senior center midfielder Shayla Strickland and sophomore striker Bella Quadros in the shutout win.

    Also scoring were seventh-grader Ellie Drost and sophomore striker Lauren Blanchette. Quadros also set up two goals. LC put 34 shots on net. Defensively, senior goalie Natalia DeLucia posted her first shutout of the season.

    Bedford 3, Shawsheen 0: The Rams were blanked by Bedford, a member of the tough Dual County League.

    Golf

    Westford Academy 52.5, Bedford 19.5: Westford’s winners were Josh Richards (5.5), Nick Anderson (9.0), Gaven Pasters (8.0), Lucas Hill (7.5), Maddox Nguyen (6.0), Arleyya Mohd (7.0) and Gregory Hennessy (5.5).

    Greater Lowell 164, Methuen 124: The Gryphons improved to 5-0 with a non-league victory.  Tommy McKiernan led the way by posting a 2-under par 34 and compiling 41 points. Other top scorers were Nolan Torpey (42, 29 pts.), Joe McMenamy (43, 27 pts.), Jack Hickok (44, 23 pts) and Brody Simmons (44, 22 pts).

    Boys soccer

    Arlington 5, Wilmington 0: The Wildcats couldn’t keep pace with Arlington during a Middlesex League match. Arlington’s Sam Neal pocketed two goals and an assist.

    AC 5, Lowell Catholic 0: The Crusaders were blanked by sophomore goalie Evan Siedlecki and Arlington Catholic.
