After the longest road trip of the season, the Red Sox are back at Fenway Park on Friday to host the Toronto Blue Jays for three games.
It’s Boston’s first home stand without Rafael Devers, but they’ll be without Marcelo Mayer, too. The Red Sox placed the rookie infielder on the bereavement list Friday afternoon. Nick Sogard has been recalled from Triple-A and will start at third base and bat ninth.
The Red Sox returned home on a five-game losing streak after winning eight of their previous nine games. Now more than halfway through the schedule, they’re 40-42 and in fourth place, seven games out of first.
The Blue Jays arrived with a 43-47 record. They’re third in the AL East, but four games ahead of Boston.
