The Boston Red Sox got back in the win column on Wednesday by defeating the Seattle Mariners 3-1 with left-hander Garrett Crochet earning his seventh victory of the season.

Crochet gave the Red Sox exactly what they needed following an 8-0 blowout loss the previous night. In six innings of work, he surrendered one run on six hits, while striking out eight and not allowing a walk over 96 pitches.

Speaking about Crochet’s performance during a post-game studio segment, former Major League pitcher and current MLB Network analyst Dan Plesac was quick to shower the hard-throwing southpaw with praise following his latest gem.

Speaking first about the buzz surrounding Crochet during last season’s trade deadline, Plesac admitted he was skeptical about him having sustained success as a starting pitcher after experiencing a breakout season with the Chicago White Sox last year.

“I was a little apprehensive, (he’s) a guy that really hadn’t pitched over 150 innings a year,” said Plesac.” I know the industry was all over this guy at the trade deadline last year, and I have to say I can understand why he is a front-of-the-rotation guy.”

While breaking down Crochet’s performance on the mound Wednesday, the former MLB relief pitcher placed the Red Sox ace in an elite category.

“Lots of swing and miss, gave up a run and you know, that was on a fly ball on a sunny day in Seattle,” added Plesac. “He was brilliant and he’s been what the Red Sox thought he was going to be. There are maybe 10 true aces. He’s one of them.”
