Rafael Devers is officially a member of the San Francisco Giants.

Devers, who was acquired in a shocking trade just two days prior, got the star treatment in front of his new teammates, media and some select franchise legends in his introductory press conference Tuesday at Oracle Park. It’s safe to say they tried to steer clear of much talk about the Boston Red Sox, but the slugger made sure to thank his longtime supporters.

“I just want to thank the Boston fans,” Devers said through an interpreter, responding to a question by Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe. “They supported be throughout my whole time there. I just want to send them a thank you.”

Devers also thanked the organization for signing him and giving him an opportunity to become a big leaguer.

“I just want to thank the Boston Red Sox organization for signing me at 16 and giving me an opportunity to become a big leaguer,” Devers said. “I’m happy to be here with the San Francisco Giants, and obviously happy to represent Latin America.”

It’ll probably hurt for a long time, folks, but at least you got some nice words from the now-former face of your favorite franchise.
