NEWTON, Mass. – The Boston College field hockey team (1-0) opened the 2026 season with a 3-1 victory over Providence (0-1) on Friday afternoon at Newton Field Hockey Complex.
After a defensive battle through the opening three quarters, the Eagles and Friars entered the final period knotted at 0-0, with just three combined shots on goal through 45 minutes of play.
Boston College broke through early in the fourth quarter when Alex De Cain converted off a penalty corner to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Providence answered minutes later, converting on a penalty stroke to level the score at 1-1.
The Eagles quickly regained the advantage as Klara Mueffelmann found the back of the cage off a rebound to put BC ahead, 2-1. Mueffelmann added her second goal of the afternoon on an open-net opportunity, securing the 3-1 season-opening victory for the Eagles.

After their trip to UAlbany on Sunday, the Eagles come back to Newton to host Maryland, Northwestern and Duke in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge Sept. 4-6. BC will play Maryland on Friday night at 6 p.m. before facing Northwestern Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. on ACC Network.
