    Hear from Natick, Wayland Meet of Champions champions

    Natick’s Chloe Elder (400 meters) and Emmanuella Edozien (100 hurdles) as well as Wayland’s Ryan McCormack (pole vault) won titles at the Meet of Champions.

    Then there were four. The state semifinals are upon us, and the track & field season is in the rearview within the Commonwealth after the weekend’s Meet of Champions.

    These Fantastic Five athletes ensured they will keep playing or be remembered forever over the weekend.

    Here’s the Daily News high school sports top performers from the weekend June 5-7:

    Emily Atwood, Hopedale softball

    The freshman punched out 12 batters and allowed just two hits, throwing a shutout in a 12-0 win over No. 6 Granby in the Division 5 quarterfinals Sunday. She also was 3-for-3 with an RBI for the No. 3 Blue Raiders (13-10), who will face No. 2 Georgetown at 5 p.m. Wednesday at UMass-Lowell. Hopedale’s Olivia Barroso had five RBIs with a double on a 3-for-4 day. Lucy Mandeville (home run) and Delaney Vaillette (two doubles) each went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Blue Raiders, while Mia Casey (double, RBI) contributed two hits.

    Emmanuella Edozien & Chloe Elder, Natick girls track & field

    They each brought home gold medals from the Meet of Champions. Edozien repeated as the 100-meter hurdles champion in 14.09 seconds. Elder set a meet record in the 400, winning in 53.96.

    Zach Forjette, Westborough boys tennis

    He swept Dylan Vake 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, leading the No. 1 Rangers back to the Division 2 state semifinals with a 4-1 win over No. 8 Hingham on Friday. The Rangers will look to return to the state final when they face No. 5 Marblehead (20-2) at 4 p.m. Westborough’s Dash Nayak beat Will Connelly 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Westborough’s No. 1 doubles team Jordan Hlawek and Subash Pallothu won 6-2, 6-3, and Matias Rosenzuaig and Arnav Chinthapatia picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win over Jimmy Magher and Shlock Patel at No. 2 doubles.

    Moving on: Ellis keys offense as Shrewsbury edges Franklin to reach D1 state semifinal

    Ryan McCormack, Wayland boys track & field

    He won the pole vault at 14 feet, 6 inches Saturday at the Meet of Champions, setting a school record in the process. McCormack also placed fourth in the long jump.

    Ava McLeod, AMSA softball

    She threw a two-hit shutout with six strikeouts in a 5-0 win over Lunenburg in the Division 4 quarterfinals Friday. McLeod also launched a three-run home run in the first inning and had four RBIs. No. 1 AMSA (21-0) will face No. 13 Seekonk (15-0) at 6 p.m. Monday at Worcester State. Madelyn Glynn singled twice and scored a run for the Eagles, and Brook Laudate contributed an RBI double.
