    World Cup trophy arrives in Mexico City ahead of opening match

    The World Cup trophy arrives in Mexico City as Mexico prepares to open the tournament at Estadio Azteca against South Africa.

    The World Cup 2026 is coming to 16 cities across Canada, Mexico and the United States this summer, and fans will want to be prepared.

    Beginning June 11, cities hosting World Cup matches will offer a unique blend of sports, food and culture. From Vancouver to Mexico City, each host location will showcase its history, cuisine and magnetic atmosphere to thousands of soccer fans taking in the action.

    As fans embark upon host cities, it’s important to know where to go, what to do and what to eat. USA TODAY has taken the liberty of compiling all the necessary information for each city, including what matches the location will host and items to check out while traveling.

    Here are travel guides for each World Cup 2026 host city:

    Atlanta

    Atlanta, the heart of the South, is home to some of the most vibrant attractions, architecture and more. There are eight World Cup matches on deck for Atlanta.

    From its famous colonial-era landmarks to its distinct neighbors, Boston is a historic city with deep American ties. Boston is staging seven matches during the 2026 tournament.

    Guadalajara

    The city of Guadalajara has a rich history and culture fueling its soul. Guadalajara is set to host four matches during the World Cup.

    Houston

    Houston, the United States’ fourth-largest city, is a multicultural location home to top dining, arts, nightlife and more. The city is hosting seven World Cup matches.

    Kansas City

    Kansas City offers several modern attractions and boasts a vibrant culture and rich history. The city will host four matches in the group stage of the World Cup.

    Los Angeles

    Los Angeles has close to 75 miles of gorgeous coastline to visit, plus unique experiences and food to try. The city will host eight World Cup matches, including a quarterfinal game.

    Mexico City

    Mexico City is a place that you could explore for a lifetime and keep discovering new corners. Mexico City will host five matches during the World Cup, including the opening match between Mexico and South Africa.

    With sunny beaches, lively streets and melting pot of cultures, every corner of Miami has its own rhythm. Miami will host seven matches, including four group‑stage matches, a round of 32 matchup, a quarterfinal and the World Cup’s third‑place match.

    Monterrey

    Monterrey is known for its love of soccer and its affinity for grilled meat. The northern Mexico city is hosting four World Cup matches.

    New York and New Jersey offer a combination of top cultural attractions and world-class sights. There will be eight matches, including the final, during the World Cup.
