ATHENS, Ga. – No. 2 seed Boston College baseball (37-23) saw its historic 2026 season come to an end to No. 3 seed Liberty (43-20) 8-3 on Sunday in the second round elimination game of the NCAA Athens Regional. The Eagles finished the year 37-23; matching the most wins in program history set in 2005 and 2023.

BC’s run to the postseason marked the 13th NCAA Tournament appearance in program history and first since 2023.

Brady Miller tied his career-high for strikeouts with nine. Ty Mainolfi hit his second home run of the season, while Gunnar Johnson hit an RBI single for the Eagles.

Mainolfi put the Eagles on the board in the first inning with a solo home run to deep right center field to give BC a 1-0 lead.

Boston College doubled its lead in the next inning off an RBI single from Johnson.

Miller pitched back-to-back 1-2-3 innings to start the game while striking out four batters.

The Flames took a 5-2 lead after tallying five runs in the third. Liberty loaded the bases to begin the inning and then Riley DeCandido brought home two runners with a single to right field. A failed pickoff attempt brought Tanner Marsh across the plate followed by an RBI triple by Jordan Jaffe. Nick Barone capped the scoring in the inning with an RBI double to right field.

Liberty hit a pair of solo home runs over the next two innings to push the lead to 7-2. The Flames added a run in the seventh to make it an 8-2 game.

Mainolfi picked up his second RBI of the day when he hit a single to right field in the ninth that sent Esteban Garcia across the plate.
