ATHENS, Ga. – No. 2 seed Boston College baseball (36-22) fell to No. 3 Liberty (42-19) 4-3 in the opening game of the Athens Regional in the NCAA Tournament on Friday afternoon. After falling behind 2-0 early, the Eagles scored the next three runs to take a 3-2 lead before the Flames regained the lead with two runs in the ninth.

A.J. Colarusso matched his season-high of seven innings and struck out six batters while allowing just two runs. Julio Solier hit two home runs for the Eagles, the first multi-home run game of his career. Solier also moved into a tie for second for single season hits as he now has 82. Jack Toomey also hit a solo home run for Boston College.

Liberty jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after tacking on two runs in the first inning. Jaxon Sorenson opened the scoring with an RBI single to right field, and Nick Barone doubled the lead in the next at-bat with an RBI single to center field.

The Eagles cut into the deficit in the fifth inning when Solier hit his first home run of the afternoon, a 425-foot blast to right center field to put Boston College on the board.

Solier added his second home run of the day in the seventh inning to tie the game at 2-2.

BC took its first lead of the day in the bottom of the eighth inning after Jack Toomey hit a solo shot to right field to put the Eagles in front 3-2.

Liberty immediately answered with two runs in the top of the ninth to regain its lead and held on for the win.

Up Next: The Eagles will play at noon on Saturday in game three of the Athens Regional, taking on either No. 1 seed Georgia or No. 4 seed LIU. Broadcast network will be determined following the conclusion of the Georgia and LIU game.
