New York’s Olympic sports venues have hit a new milestone, drawing more than 1.2 million visits over the past year as tourism and international competition continue to rebound.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the record visitation for the 2025-26 fiscal year, pointing to strong winter conditions, expanded programming, and a packed calendar of events as key drivers.

State officials said skier visits alone reached more than 764,000 — an all-time high — with record numbers reported at Whiteface, Gore, and Belleayre mountains.

The surge was fueled in part by major international competitions, including World Cup events in mountain biking and cross-country skiing, as well as collegiate hockey championships that drew large crowds and global attention.

Leaders say the Olympic Regional Development Authority venues are serving a dual role — attracting tourism while also functioning as training hubs for elite athletes. Thousands of competitors train at the facilities each year, including members of Team USA preparing for the 2026 Winter Olympics.

The growth is also translating into economic gains for surrounding regions. Officials said visitor spending in Essex County increased by millions of dollars year over year, supporting local businesses and tourism-related jobs.

State officials say continued investment in infrastructure and year-round programming has helped position the venues as destinations beyond the traditional winter season.

While visitation remains strong, officials noted they are monitoring changes in travel patterns, including a decline in Canadian visitors, and working with tourism partners to adjust strategy.

The record year underscores the state’s broader effort to leverage its Olympic legacy as both an economic engine and a center for international sport.
