PORTLAND, Ore. — A first-of-its-kind event is coming to Portland: the inaugural International Women’s Sports Film Festival.

Set to take place the first weekend of May at the Judy Kafoury Center for Youth Arts, the festival will spotlight powerful stories of women and nonbinary athletes from around the world. Ahead of the main event, organizers are hosting a special preview screening at the Winningstad Theatre.

In this interview, co-founders Jenny Nguyen of The Sports Bra, Molly King of QDoc Film Festival, and Kimiko Matsuda of the “Idea Factory” discuss what inspired them to launch the festival, why it’s important to elevate underrepresented voices in sports, and what audiences can expect from the films and panel discussions.

They also share their vision for how the festival could grow in the future and become a lasting part of Portland’s arts and sports culture.

Learn more about tickets, screenings, and events here as Portland prepares to host this groundbreaking film festival.
