CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – No. 23 Boston College Baseball (23-11, 9-6 ACC) defeated UMass (6-18, 2-13 MAC) in the first round of the Beanpot, 11-1 on Tuesday afternoon.

Luke D’Ancona made his first career collegiate start for the Eagles and went two innings with strikeouts while giving up an earned run. Chase Hartsell relieved D’Ancona and pitched an inning while striking out two. Gavin Soares came on after Hartsell for an inning of relief and did not give up a run. Jacob Burnham took the mound after Soares and went four scoreless innings with three strikeouts to earn the win.

The Minutemen got on the board right away at the top of the first when they got runners to first and third with one out. They would then hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in the runner from third.

In the bottom half of the first, Boston College responded as they put up five runs. The Eagles would put runners on first and third for Jack Toomey, who would line a single to right field to tie the game at one. Boston College would execute a double steal with Nick Wang and Toomey giving runners at second and third for Carter Hendrickson. Wang would score on a wild pitch to make it 2-1. Hendrickson earned a walk and stole second before being brought in on Luke Gallo’s first career triple to give the Eagles a 4-1 lead. Gallo would then score on a wild pitch to cap off the five-run inning.

Boston College added a sixth run in the bottom of the second. A pitch would hit Julio Solier, who then stole second before being moved to third by Ty Mainolfi. Wang would bring in Solier to score and extend the Eagles’ lead to five with his 40th RBI of the season.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Boston College tacked on three runs to push the lead to 9-1. The Eagles loaded the bases with no outs after singles from Toomey and Hendrickson, along with a walk from Gallo. Danny Surowiec grounded out to the first baseman to score Toomey. Cesar Gonzalez then doubled home Hendrickson and Gallo to give Boston College a three-run fifth.

Hendrickson would walk the game off in the bottom half of the eighth inning with a two-out single that would score Wang and Mainolfi from second and third after the duo executed the Eagles’ second double steal of the game.

Up Next: The Eagles will return to action tomorrow when they host Dartmouth at 3:00 p.m. on ACCNX.
