    BC Drops First of Pitt Series

    Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Boston College softball team (9-19, 1-3 ACC) lost 9-8 to the University of Pittsburgh (16-11, 3-4 ACC) on the road in rainy conditions on Friday afternoon.

    The second inning started the momentum for BC. Janis Espinoza singled in the infield and was then immediately hit in by Adriana Martinez with a home run over the left field fence to take an early 2-0 lead. Pitt tied it up in the bottom of the inning.

    The Eagles loaded the bases in the third utilizing errors and walks from the Panthers. Espinoza was then hit by a pitch to walk in a run take the lead back at 3-2.

    The Eagles had a big fourth inning with a three run homer from Emma Knight directly followed by a solo shot from Abby Ptak two pitches later to extend the lead 7-2.

    The Panthers added three more in the fourth to cut the lead back to 7-5 before the game would get sent to a rain delay.

    After the break, Pitt tied the game up 7-7 going into the sixth inning. Each team would hold that score till the seventh.

    Espinoza doubled down the left field line then advanced to third on a wild pitch to put herself into scoring position. Martinez hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in the run and take the lead once more.

    Pitt came back in the bottom of the inning to end the game with four hits that resulted in two runs for the 9-8 final score.

    GAME NOTES

    With three home runs from Adriana Martinez, Emma Knight and Abby Ptak, marks the first time the Eagles have hit three home runs in a single game since May of last season against Stanford.

    UP NEXT 

    BC continues at Pitt for the second game of the series set to start at 3 p.m. tomorrow.
