In its 9-1 defeat at the hands of Team USA in the World Baseball Classic on Saturday night, Team Great Britain only tallied three base hits, and Boston Red Sox‘s Nate Eaton was the man behind all three.

Boston’s utility player went 3-for-4 at the plate in the loss against a star-studded American lineup. He opened the game in dramatic fashion by crushing the first pitch from two-time Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal for a solo home run to left-center field. Originally ruled a double, the call flipped after review, confirming the 389-foot blast and giving Great Britain an early 1-0 edge.

Eaton followed with a single off Skubal in the third and another base hit in the sixth, staying perfect until his final at-bat. The rest of the British lineup combined for 0-for-24 with 17 strikeouts.

Eaton has carved out a reliable presence with the Red Sox since joining the organization as a minor league free agent ahead of 2025. He split time between Triple-A Worcester and the majors last year, batting .296 across 41 games with the big club while flashing speed, defensive range, and positional flexibility at third base, the outfield corners, and beyond. His contributions helped Boston push into the playoffs, where he earned starts and delivered timely production off the bench.

The right-handed hitter brings energy, versatility, and a track record of stepping up when called upon. His WBC effort only reinforces the value he adds to the Red Sox mix as the regular season approaches.
