While Massachusetts is likely to see relief from the arctic cold that enveloped the Bay State this weekend, yet another clipper system is expected to bring more snow to the region on Tuesday.

A Cold Weather Advisory remains in place for much of Central and Western Massachusetts on Monday morning, with National Weather Service forecasters warning of “dangerously cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero.” The advisory expires at 10 a.m.

The cold air is expected to give way to more moderate temperatures in the high 20s, with mostly sunny skies during the day Monday. Temperatures are likely to drop to the single digits and teens overnight.

Another system brings snow to Massachusetts on Tuesday, but limited precipitation is expected to keep snow totals down. Forecasters with the weather service expect about 1 to 3 inches Tuesday into Tuesday night, with up to 4 inches possible in the northeastern part of the state.

Some snow showers could linger into the afternoon and evening on Wednesday, particularly in Eastern Massachusetts.

As the clipper system moves out, high pressure begins to build back into the region, bringing drier conditions to Massachusetts. With the arctic airmass gone, forecasters expect high temperatures to reach the mid to upper 30s from Wednesday onward. Still, nighttime lows are expected to fall to the teens and low 20s.

“Notably, wind chills will not be as brutally cold,” forecasters wrote.
