    Fencing Prepares for Two Meets at Duke and UNC

    CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College Fencing will compete in two meets this weekend. The Eagles travel to ACC foes Duke and North Carolina for the Beguinet Classic and Miller Invitational.

    ​The Beguinet Classic will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Feb. 7. BC will wrap up the weekend with the Miller Invitational at 8:00 a.m. on Feb. 8. 

    Last Season’s Miller Invitational and Beguinet Classic

    The Women’s Fencing team took part in five of the seven rounds, compiling a 2-3 record. Boston College earned team victories over Penn State and Johns Hopkins, and fell to NYU, Notre Dame, and UNC. Women’s Foil led the way, earning a 4-1 overall record, including a 5-4 win to lift the Eagles past Penn State and a 6-3 victory to defeat John Hopkins. Women’s Epee earned 8-1 and 9-0 wins over Penn State and Notre Dame, respectively.  

    Boston College men recorded wins over NYU and Air Force in rounds 3 and 4, respectively, to earn their lone team victories at the invitational. The Eagles fell to Notre Dame, UNC, and Penn State in rounds 1,2, and 5. On the Men’s side, Men’s Foil led the way with a 4-1 record on the day. Men’s Foil earned victories of 5-4 over NYU and 6-3 over Air Force, lifting the Eagles. Men’s Epee also dominated, winning 8-1 over Air Force. 

    Levi Hughes became the winningest Men’s Fencer in school history when he won his 164th bout on Sunday afternoon. 

    Last Time Out

    The Eagles competed against Stevens Tech, NJIT, New York University, and Hunter last weekend at the Eric Sollee Invitational. 

    The men’s team swept their competition. They defeated Stevens, 18-9, and swept all three weapons. They defeated NJIT and NYU, 18-9 and 16-11, respectively, with foil and saber sweeping. In the last match of the afternoon, the Eagles defeated Hunter, 26-1, with Epee and Foil recording clean sweeps. 

    On the women’s side, Boston College went 4-0 as well. The Eagles swept the Foil and saber in all four matches, while Epee went 3-1. BC defeated both Stevens and NJIT by a score of 21-6. They defeated NYU 15-12 before defeating Hunter 24-3, which was highlighted by a 9-0 sweep of saber.
