The Boston Red Sox have added some depth who began his professional baseball career with the AL East rival Toronto Blue Jays.

The MLB transactions page revealed that the Red Sox have signed infielder Vinny Capra to a minor league contract. He presumably has an invite to big league spring training.

Capra was originally a 20th-round pick of the Blue Jays in the 2018 draft.

He broke through for his MLB debut with Toronto and played eight games for the Blue Jays.

Capra was then traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates for catcher Tyler Heineman.

Since then, Capra has made MLB appearances for the Pirates, the Milwaukee Brewers and the Chicago White Sox.

Capra opened the 2025 season with the Brewers, for whom he was briefly hot before getting ice cold.

He ended up batting only .125 in 47 MLB games in 2025, which didn’t lead to him being kept around by the White Sox, for whom he ended the year.

Capra can play second base, third base, shortstop and even outfield.

He also has solid Triple-A numbers. In 2025 at Charlotte, he batted .286 with a .440 slugging percentage.

The Red Sox have strong infield depth, including players who can play multiple positions. Capra would likely need a highly impressive spring to even have a chance at the MLB roster on Opening Day.

But it’s never bad to have guys like Capra around at Triple-A Worcester for some additional depth if it’s needed.
