With the Toronto Blue Jays having to make a tough decision on shortstop Bo Bichette, they could lose him to one of the top teams in the American League East.

On paper, the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox could use a player of Bichette’s caliber, as he’s done nothing but prove over the past few years to be one of the better shortstops in the league.

However, considering the Yankees likely won’t go that direction, that leaves the Red Sox as the top team to poach him in the American League East.

According to the latest report from MLB.com’s Thomas Harrigan, it’s fair to add the Red Sox to the group of suitors for the right-handed hitting middle-infielder.

“Add the Red Sox to that group, too. Boston has made no secret about its desire to add an impact bat after trading Rafael Devers in June and watching Alex Bregman opt out of his contract. WEEI’s Rob Bradford reports that the club is considering Bichette to fill that need.

“A return to the Blue Jays can’t be ruled out, either, even with three-time Gold Glover Andrés Giménez capable of sliding over to handle shortstop duties, like he did while Bichette battled a knee injury during the 2025 playoffs,” he wrote.

    Bichette would help Boston

It’d be interesting to see Bichette land with the Red Sox due to the rivalry, but considering Boston is looking for some help offensively, there aren’t many better players around baseball at shortstop who can come in and fix that.

It’d also be likely to see him possibly move over to second base, as Trevor Story seems to be in a relatively decent position up the middle.
