Donald Hand scored 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds and Luka Toews added 12 points to lead Boston College past The Citadel 76-47 at the Conte Forum in Boston on Nov. 6.

The Eagles (1-1) got off to a slow start, trailing the Bulldogs by nine points, but outscored The Citadel 22-2 during a seven-minute stretch to take control of the game.

The Citadel (1-1) was led by Christian Moore, who finished with 16 points, while Sola Adebisi added a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds and two blocks.

    Key Stats

    • Three days after attempting the most 3-point attempts in program history (59), the Bulldogs were just 5 of 26 from long range (19.2 percent).

The Bulldogs’ 21 3-pointers, tied for third most in school history, in their 105-61 win over Erskine on Monday in the season opener.

    • The Bulldogs, who were the worst free throw shooting team in the Southern Conference last season, went just 10 of 20 from the free throw line against the Eagles.

    • The Eagles outrebounded the Bulldogs, 47-36. The Eagles also committed just four turnovers on the night.

    • Boston College is coached by Earl Grant, who was an assistant coach at The Citadel (2002-04) under Pat Dennis.

The former Stall High School standout went on to be the head coach at College of Charleston from 2014-21 where he led the Cougars to a 127-89 record, including an NCAA Tournament bid in 2018.

    • The Citadel’s Simeon German missed his second straight game with an undisclosed injury.

The 6-10 senior played at USC Aiken last season.

    Turning Point

The Citadel got off a fast start, jumping out to a 16-7 lead early in the first half on Adebisi’s 3-pointer with 13:33 to play in the first half.

The Eagles responded with a 27-4 run over the next 10 minutes to open up a 34-20 advantage on Donald Hand’s short jumper with 1:40 before halftime.

    Quotable

“We got into foul trouble early. We have to move our feet better, our positioning was a little off. We were playing good on the offensive end, but we were a little careless on the defensive end. They turned up the pressure on us and we were not able to sustain our execution. We got a lot of good information from this game and we’ll grow form this. I have no doubt our guys will bounce back.” The Citadel coach Ed Conroy.
