US LBM Coaches Poll: Five teams on track for college football playoff

USA TODAY Sports’ Paul Myerberg breaks down the latest US LBM Coaches poll and reveals five Power 4 teams likely headed to the CFP.

    • The top 10 teams in the US LBM Coaches Poll remain unchanged after Week 9.
    • Oklahoma fell seven places to No. 18 after its loss to Ole Miss.
    • Houston, Navy, Utah, and Memphis are new additions to the Top 25 rankings.

Week 9 in college football featured plenty of drama but few actual upsets. As such, most of the upper tier of the US LBM Coaches Poll remains unchanged.

The top 10, in fact, has the exact same order as last week. Ohio State, which had the weekend off, stays on top with 62 of 64 first-place votes cast this week. Indiana holds at No. 2 after rolling past UCLA, though the Hoosiers did not get either of the remaining two first-place nods. Those both went to Texas A&M, which stays at No. 3 overall following its second-half dominance at LSU.

Alabama had a narrow escape at South Carolina but stays at No. 4, while idle Georgia continues to round out the top five. Oregon, Georgia Tech, Mississippi, Miami (Fla.) and Brigham Young again comprise the second half of the top 10.

The No. 11 spot occupied by Oklahoma last week is inherited by Vanderbilt, which moves one step closer to the top 10. The Sooners fall seven places to No. 18 following the loss to Ole Miss. Notre Dame also gains a spot to No. 12. Cincinnati and Louisville each vault five places to No. 16 and 17 respectively, while Missouri slides six spots to No. 20.

No. 22 Houston heads the group of four teams moving into the rankings. Navy, the last undefeated team outside the Power Four conferences, makes its poll debut at No. 23. No. 24 Utah and No. 25 Memphis also rejoin.

LSU, South Florida, Illinois and Arizona State fall out after losses.
