World Cup 2026: Qatar qualifies after heated match against the Emirates

On Tuesday, the Qatar national team defeated the United Arab Emirates 2-1, securing their place at the 2026 World Cup. This marks the Qataris’ second appearance, following their hosting of the 2022 edition.

Qatar’s goals came from Boualem Khoukhi and Ró-Ró, while Sultan Adil pulled one back for the Emirates. After one of Qatar’s goals, tempers flared on the pitch. Videos captured a brief altercation involving some exuberant Qatari players and rival supporters in the stands.

Qatar, hosts of the last World Cup in 2022, finished bottom of their group without a single point. The team will now have a fresh opportunity to make their mark at the next tournament.
