A big second quarter by Lehi propelled it to a dominant 34-6 win over Lone Peak on Thursday night.

Lehi got contributions from all phases of the game, with two touchdowns coming from Legend Glasker and one apiece from Briggs Love and Wyatt Bingham.

Bode Hammon also contributed in a big way by converting on four field goals, with three of those coming in the first half.

What started out as a low-scoring and sluggish affair quickly turned into a blowout for the Pioneers.

“We just had a couple of mistakes early. Our defense started to make plays in the second quarter and from that point on we knew we had it and it was all about keeping the momentum going and keeping your head up,” said Lehi head coach Andy Hadfield.

“I think once we started causing the turnovers that kind of lit a fire for us.”

The game was bombarded with flags and penalties early, and Lone Peak got the only score in the opening quarter behind a 31-yard field goal by Jake Barker.

Barker then added another field goal early in the second quarter to double Lone Peak’s lead.

That would be the only points Lone Peak would score for the entirety of the game, as Lehi’s defense took over, allowing the offense to break the game wide open.

Interceptions by Vincent Evans and Glasker swayed the momentum to Lehi’s favor, something the Pioneers would not relinquish. Lehi put 20 points up on Lone Peak in the second quarter to take a comfortable 20-6 lead into to halftime.

Much of the second half was about controlling the possession for Lehi and taking advantage of the field possession when given the opportunity.

“My defensive coordinator is one of the best in the state,” Hadfield said. “He does a really good job. I think we have really come far in our gameplans and our schemes.

“When things aren’t going your way, you have to find other ways to disrupt their offense and disrupt the pass.”

With the regular season winding down and his team preparing for the postseason, Hadfield feels like his group is starting to peak at the most opportune time.

“The who year we have been preaching that we have to peak at the right time,” he said. “Every week it’s about getting better. I feel like the guys finally started buying into it about a couple of weeks ago.

“Momentum had changed and gone in our favor and the energy is back in this program.”
