Massachusetts is warming up Wednesday after one of the coldest mornings of the season, kicking off a stretch that could send temperatures into the 70s by Friday.
Temperatures fell into the lower 20s early Wednesday in some valleys of northern Massachusetts, while urban areas remained closer to the lower 40s.
The cold won’t last long. Sunshine will help temperatures rebound into the mid-50s across much of the state Wednesday, with readings approaching 60 in the Connecticut River Valley.
Clouds will increase Wednesday night, helping keep temperatures from falling as sharply. Overnight lows are expected to be about 5 to 10 degrees warmer than Tuesday night.
Local forecasts for Wednesday:
-
Boston: High 56, low 43, increasing clouds
-
Hyannis: High 54, low 45, mostly sunny
-
Pittsfield: High 57, low 37, partly sunny
-
Springfield: High 57, low 38, partly sunny
-
Worcester: High 56, low 41, increasing clouds
The warming trend continues Thursday, when highs should reach the mid-60s across Massachusetts. Parts of Western Massachusetts could approach 70 degrees.
Friday is expected to be the warmest day of the week, with highs reaching the upper 60s and lower 70s across much of the state. The National Weather Service says there is at least a 50% to 75% chance of temperatures reaching 70 degrees in the river valleys and along the Interstate 95 corridor.
Friday will also turn windy, with gusts potentially reaching 30 mph. The strongest winds are expected east of the Berkshires.
A weak cold front will move through Friday night, bringing highs back into the lower 60s for the weekend.
