NEWTON, Mass. – Boston College men’s soccer team defeated New Haven, 2-1, in a non-conference meeting on Tuesday afternoon at the Newton Soccer Complex. This was the first meeting between the two programs.
Russell Brown recorded his fourth goal of the season while Connor Gibson scored his first career goal. Henry Wassarman and Dylan Mafong each recorded an assist. Andrej Borak stopped five shots for his third shutout of the season.
Brown opened the scoring in the 36th minute when he ran onto a long ball from Wassarman and slotted it home through the goalkeeper’s legs.
Gibson doubled the Eagles’ lead in the 55th minute when he one-timed a cross off a free kick from Mafong into the far corner.
The Chargers pulled one back in the 89th minute on a quick counterattack.
The two teams were evenly matched, tied in corners (5-5) and shots on goal (6-6).
Boston College is back in action on Friday night when they travel to No. 15 Louisville. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
