Chestnut Hill, Mass. – The Boston College softball team (11-26, 2-10 ACC) kicks off a long home stretch with a midweek game against non-conference opponent University of Connecticut (16-22) on Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Harrington Athletics Village and on ACCNX.
Last Time Out
Boston College spent the weekend in Atlanta, dropping all three conference games to Georgia Tech. Emma Knight led the Eagles at the plate with a .400 batting average, four hits, four RBI, and two home runs, while Knight and Adriana Martinez each homered in the series opener.
Good Knight
Freshman Emma Knight is off to a strong start to her career, leading the team with 34 RBI while totaling 35 hits and recording 12 multi-RBI games. After the UNC series, Knight etched her name in the record books as just the sixth Eagle to hit two home runs in a single game and tied Hall of Famer Tatiana Cortez with seven RBI in a game, a feat last accomplished in 2017. She now has a team-high 10 home runs on the season after hitting two in the Georgia Tech series and sits one home run shy of Boston College’s single-season top 10, along with just four RBI away from joining that list as well.
PTAK ATTACK!
Abby Ptak leads Boston College in batting average (.403), slugging percentage (.639), doubles (11), and hits (48), and is tied for 10th in the ACC in doubles this season. She has recorded 16 multi-hit games and put together a 17-game hitting streak earlier in the year. The sophomore is on pace to crack BC’s single-season top 10 in batting average if she maintains a mark above .366 over the remaining games, and she is also just 10 hits and two doubles away from reaching two more single-season top 10 marks.
AD! AD!
Adriana Martinez has hit six home runs this season, including a grand slam in a win over Pitt and has recorded six multi-RBI games.
Scouting UConn
The Eagles are 28–31 all-time against the Huskies, with their last win coming on the road last season, while UConn enters the matchup on a six-game winning streak after sweeping BIG EAST opponents DePaul and Villanova. Cat Patteys leads the Huskies with a .375 batting average and 45 hits, adding an RBI in five straight games and reaching base safely in nine consecutive contests. Savannah Ring follows with a .352 batting average and is riding an 11-game hitting streak. In the circle, Jessica Walter owns a team-best 4.01 ERA over 73.1 innings, while Caprice Bohmer leads the staff with seven wins and has held opponents to a .244 batting average with 97 strikeouts.
