CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College women’s basketball defeated SMU, 77-59, on Thursday evening in Moody Coliseum.

The Eagles improve to 5-24 and 1-15 in the ACC, while the Mustangs fall to 9-18 and 2-13 in the ACC.

Lily Carmody turned in the best performance of her career, registering a career-high 27 points on 11-of-19 shooting from the field, grabbed five rebounds, and dished out three assists. Carmody also shot 5-of-5 from the line.

The sophomore guard was one of four players in double figures, with Amirah Anderson registering 14 points with seven off the glass.

Erin Houpt tallied 14 points thanks to going 7-of-8 at the line, while Jocelyne Grier came off the bench to score 12. Kayla Rolph led the team with eight rebounds, and Athena Tomlinson dished out five assists.

The Eagles used a fourth-quarter surge to pull away for the road triumph. Leading 55-54 with 7:34 left in the game, BC outscored its foe 22-5 the rest of the way. A 6-0 run by Carmody and Rolph pushed the lead to seven before a 3-pointer by SMU closed the gap to four, 61-57. It was as close the Mustangs would get, as BC ended the game on a 16-2 run highlighted by 11 straight points over the final 1:28 of the game.

The defense held SMU in check in the final quarter, allowing just three field goals and forcing six turnovers.

BC trailed by five early in the third period but fought back to tie up the contest midway through the frame. Anderson’s trifecta broke the stalemate, giving the Eagles the lead for good despite SMU bringing the deficit to two.Tomlinson’s trifecta with seconds left gave her team a 55-50 lead at the end of the third.

It was a low-scoring first half that led to a 26-26 tie, with both teams shooting under 35 percent from the field.

BC shot 51.4 percent in the second half and went 11-of-13 in the line, while Carmody scored 17 of her points in the final two quarters. The Eagles held an 18-3 advantage in points off turnovers and shot 18-of-21 from the charity stripe.

    Tip-Ins

    • The 27 points by Carmody are the most in a BC game this season, and the first time since last season a BC player scored at least 25 points on the road.
    • Carmody is one of nine players in the league to score at least 25 points with zero 3-pointers in a league game.
    • Houpt is eight points away from 1,000 for her career.
