LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The College Football Playoff National Championship trophy is headed to Bloomington, Indiana, and the school is planning a celebration Saturday for Indiana football.
Indiana University announced on social media there will be a championship celebration from 1-1:30 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Stadium. The parking lots open at 10 a.m., and gates open at 11:30 a.m.
Fans in attendance will receive commemorative championship rally towels.
With the winter weather headed for the area and as much as 1 foot of snow predicted, IU recommended everyone dress warmly and remain in their vehicles until close to 1 p.m. In a news release Friday, the university said it considered moving the celebration inside Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall but realized people may actually spend more time outside in that scenario waiting in line to get inside.
“By keeping the celebration at the stadium rather than moving it indoors, we aim to minimize the total time attendees are exposed to the elements,” IU said.
The Hoosiers’ football team became the undefeated national champs Monday night. Indiana beat Miami 27-21 at Hard Rock Stadium for the College Football Playoff National Championship, with the Hoosiers becoming the first 16-0 team in major college football since Yale in 1894.
