Massachusetts high school sports highlights for Feb. 7

Stone’s accomplishments include five tennis state championships, eight individual state champions in wrestling, five league titles, three sectional titles, and a state duals finals appearance in 2014. He’s an eight-time Cape Ann League Coach of the Year and a two-time Globe selection. He’s a member of the National Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame and, in 2013, was named National Wrestling Coaches Association Coach of the Year.

▪ Woburn wrestling senior captain Thomas Kineavy reached 100 career wins as the Tanners went 2-1 at the Division 2 State Duals to finish the regular season with a 22-5-3 mark, setting a program record for wins.

▪ Arlington Catholic boys’ hockey coach Curt Colarullo recorded his 100th victory with a 4-2 triumph over King Philip at Foxboro Sports Center. Alex Frost and Jack Raposa put the Cougars up 2-0 in the first period and they didn’t look back. Colarullo spent two seasons as head coach at Concord-Carlisle and eight at Lexington before returning to his alma mater (’97) in 2022 to succeed the legendary Dan Shine after 44 seasons.

▪ Shawsheen/Bedford/Lowell girls’ hockey goalie Elise MacEachern notched her 1,000th career save as a sophomore during a 6-0 loss to Waltham.

▪ Wareham sophomore Ingrid Beaudoin broke her second school record of the indoor season at the MSTCA Qualifier Meet at the Reggie Lewis Center, racing to a 5:35.68 time in the mile to break Adreanna Dillen’s time from 2020.

▪ With a 2-2 tie against Bedford, Dracut/Tyngsborough boys’ hockey clinched a second straight MVC/DCL III title with a 7-0-2 league mark (13-1-2 overall). After sharing the crown with Methuen last year, they claimed it outright this time.

▪ Milton girls’ hockey cruised past Weymouth, 3-0, on the back of two Nayeli Thayer goals and a Caera Hart shutout to capture a fourth straight Bay State Conference championship. The Wildcats have gone 50 straight league games without a loss (45-0-5).

▪ On Friday, the Lowell boys won the Merrimack Valley Conference indoor track championship with 104 points, slipping past Central Catholic (101) and North Andover (98.5). The title came down to the 4×400 relay and the Red Raiders delivered.

Unranked Belmont boys’ hockey stunned No. 19 Woburn, 6-3, at O’Brien Arena. The Marauders (4-11-2) entered the day with just three wins, but rode a John Connolly hat trick and 3 points from Michael Rowan (2 goals, assist) to a Middlesex League Liberty division triumph over the Tanners (9-5-2).

Riley Bergeron, Acton-Boxborough — The freshmen netted a hat trick to power a 7-1 win over Wayland-Weston.

Fionn Boyce, Braintree — The junior capped his hat trick with the winning goal in overtime, lifting the Wamps, 4-3, over Needham.

Mackenzie Kwok, Framingham — Just a freshman, she made 33 saves to preserve a 4-3 win over Wellesley/Lincoln-Sudbury.

Sophia LaFauci, Waltham — The senior netted half her team’s goals with a hat trick in a 6-0 win over Shawsheen/Bedford/Lowell.

Ryan MacDonald and Billy Lennon, Weymouth — MacDonald, a sophomore, opened the scoring and finished it in overtime as Lennon, a senior, made 39 saves to preserve a 3-2 win over Milton.

William Manchuso, St. Mark’s — The senior provided a hat trick to defeat Groton, 6-1.

Gavin Summers, Stoughton/Brockton — The senior captain from Stoughton delivered a hat trick to beat Oliver Ames, 5-4.

Kailey Tinkham, Bishop Fenwick — The sophomore drove a 7-1 win over Stoneham with a trio of goals.

Senior Caroline Peper, an Oliver Ames graduate, and the NYU women’s basketball team made history, tying the Division 3 consecutive wins record with their 81st in a row, a 73-65 victory over Case Western Reserve. The Violets can own the record outright with a win Sunday at Carnegie Mellon. Peper is averaging a career-high 18.1 points per game while hitting 36.4 percent from distance.

Khadijah Diagne has had plenty of success at the state level as a freshman for Malden, but on Saturday she broke out on the national stage.

Diagne won the 200 meters (24.51 seconds) at the renowned Colgate Women’s Games at the Nike Track and Field Center in New York.

Digane is already ranked No. 1 in Massachusetts and 12th nationally in the 300 after breaking the MSTCA meet record on Jan. 24 with a time of 38.6 seconds at the Reggie Lewis Center.

“I would like to break the state 300 record next, that is now my biggest goal,” she told Boston Running World after winning at Colgate. “I really think I might have a chance, if not this year, then next year.”

The 300 state record is one of the oldest on the books, set by TechBoston’s Tasha Downing in 37.88 seconds in 1986.

With the North, South, and Central/West boys’ swimming sectionals set for Super Bowl Sunday, Westford decided to show off its Patriot pride with specialized Drake Maye suits.
