CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College Athletics announced its 2026 theme days for each of the six Boston College Football home games on Monday afternoon.

The 2026 home schedule opens week two vs. Rutgers on September 11, the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. The Rutgers game will serve as Boston College’s 13th Red Bandanna Game, honoring former Eagles lacrosse player Welles Crowther, who died while saving as many as 12 individuals in the South Tower of the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.

A week after hosting Rutgers, Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day will take place when Boston College faces Maine on Sept. 19. Boston College’s annual Family Weekend falls during week four, when the Eagles square off vs. Virginia Tech on Sept. 26 in their first ACC match-up of the season.

After a two-week home hiatus between a trip to Dallas and a bye week, The Eagles return to Alumni Stadium to face Pittsburgh during Homecoming on Oct. 17. Partnering with BC Student Affairs and the Alumni Association, Homecoming serves as a culmination of a week-long celebration at The Heights, honoring the rich traditions and mission of Boston College. In addition, The Varsity Club will introduce new honorees at halftime of the game, followed by a brunch the next day. Complete event details and ticket information will be available at a later date.

The Eagles will celebrate Veterans/Military Appreciation Day on Nov. 7 when they take on Florida State in the penultimate home game of the 2026 campaign at Alumni Stadium. Boston College wraps up its home slate on Nov. 21 vs. Syracuse for the second edition of the Jay McGillis Memorial Senior Day Game.

While playing under head coach Tom Coughlin as Boston College’s starting strong safety in 1991, McGillis was diagnosed with leukemia. Following extensive chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant from his older brother, McGillis passed away in the summer of 1992. McGillis’ memory lived on through the Eagles’ spring football game in his honor and will continue to be honored with the Jay McGillis ’93 Memorial Scholarship Fund, bestowed upon a senior defensive back each year by the Boston College Gridiron Club. Additionally, Coughlin founded the Jay Fund in 1996 to “help families tackle childhood cancer by providing comprehensive financial, emotional and practical support.”
